Get Your Life In Order With Storage

Everyone has been in the situation where they cannot find
something essential. How frustrating it is - we have put
it in a safe place but cannot remember where that is. This
is not the half of it. The majority of people find it very
difficult to keep everything in order. Records, bills,
photos, tools, mementos and sometimes clothes; everyone
knows that things should have their own home so that we can
find them easily, however, this is often easier said than
done.

One solution to the mess of our everyday lives is storage.
A big box that will we can cram everything into is not what
we mean by storage - this is a child's perception of
storage. A lot of us use the garage or crawl space like
this... Storage needs to be systematic. In order for us
to find things there needs to be some method behind it.

Why should we bother with this? Well, people who have
sorted out their homes in this way often swear by it, and
the are plenty of theories about why this should be so.
Many experts believe in the old adage 'tidy desk, tidy
mind', and apply it to our homes. Stress is created
because potentially important things are hidden away and we
have no hope of finding them. This makes some sense, and
explains why it is difficult to find any real peace just by
packing our mess out of sight. Out of sight is not always
out of mind!

Some people believe those people who are unable to find
photos and mementos are in some unconscious way trying to
forget the past - which is considered unhealthy
emotionally. Although from their perspective it may be
only that each person's mess is better kept out of sight.

However, it does not take much to think through some
storage solutions. The key is to plan it by looking at
what you need to store. Think about the following: do I
need to keep this? How much do I need to store? Will I
need to get to it everyday?

If the things are never going to be of any use or
sentimental value to you, leave them to the trash man. It
is important to keep some connection to your past - you
will most likely regret throwing out all your old snapshots
or school reports, though some can probably go.

The answer to question 2 helps you decide if you need to
dedicate a whole box or filing cabinet to the category.
Question 3 is about deciding the location for the stored
gear, and about the kind of storage container it needs. If
something gets a yearly glance then it goes to a storage
unit, the garage or wherever. But things that you simply
want to have nearby or that need to be checked fairly
regularly should live in the house in a main room. Once
you know they are going to be in the home, think about the
storage container because the washed out laundry powder tub
probably won't compliment your decor.

Where once the choice was a metal filing box for all your
papers, these days there are smarter and better choices.
In the high street or via web-based specialists you can see
storage that is actually very pretty. Sliding attractive
boxes onto your shelves or placing them stylishly around at
floor level can really make for good design. There is no
end of fine patterns and great color choices if you make
the effort to find them.
